Interdependency of Plants and Animals
Day 2
Objectives: Explain how organisms in an area are dependent on each other.
Materials: Paper, pencils, computer
Define interdependency. Give examples of interdependency such as the relationship between plants and humans. Have students write down the definition in their journal and a few examples. Visit this animation and have students go through it to learn more about interdependency and adaptation. Students will then work in there groups to perform this activity in which they brainstorm and create a concept map in order to understand what happens when one of the essential players disappears. In closing, ask the students to answer the following questions in their journal.
Ideas for differentiation: Read The Great Kapok Tree:A Tale of the Amazon Rain Forest by Lynne Cherry.
Assessment: What is interdependency? What are some relationships between plants and animals? (Draw pictures). What happens to the relationship if one disappears?
