Importance of Earth's Resources
Day 1
Objectives: Identify Earth's resources and its importance. Describe uses of natural resources.
Materials: Slideshow, matching game, The Lorax, Vocabulary Sheet
An introduction to Earth's resources. Pass out vocabulary sheet. Show slideshow of each of earth's resources to describe the significance and the use of each natural resource. Students will discover ways that these natural resources are protected, threatened, mismanaged, and managed. They will brainstorm methods on how to manage natural resources. Following the class discussion will be an interactive activity. Within their table groups, students will play a matching game in which they match each resource with its use and examples. The teacher will list a resource and the students will raise their hands to explain the use of that resource and list an example. The teacher will provide the students with more details and state whether or not they are correct. Read The Lorax by Dr.Seuss to the students to introduce the idea of how these resources are being destroyed by humans. In completion, ask the students to list a resource that is being affected and state what is the main cause in their notebook.
Assessment: List a resource and state what is destroying it.
