Effects of Natural Events
Day 4
Objectives: Analyze the effects of fire, flood, disease, and erosion on organisms and habitats.
Materials: Images of natural disasters, colorful sheets of paper, markers, graphic organizers, overhead of definitions for foldable
Discuss what a natural event is and what some examples would be. With their shoulder partners, give each pair an image or a natural disaster. Tell students to write what they see and what they think it means on a graphic organizer. Have pairs share their image and what they thought it meant. Students will then create a foldable. Give each student 4 sheets of paper. Stagger each page a half an inch apart. Fold over top and staple. They should title it natural events. Have them write these vocabulary words on each tab: flood, erosion, volcanic eruption, fire, disease, earthquake. Ask students to draw pictures, define each, and state how it affects the environment. Place definitions on overhead.
Assessment: 3-2-1 Ask students to write 3 things they learned, 2 thing they thought were interesting, and 1 question that they still have in their journal.
Ideas for Differentiation: Smartboard activities
Resoruces: Graphic Organizer, Foldable, Definitions for Foldable
