Renewable vs. Nonrenewable Energy
Day 9
Objectives: Compare and contrast renewable and nonrenewable resources. Analyze the advantages and disadvantages of using different naturally occurring energy sources.
Materials:Paper, scissors, glue, 10 question test, Venn Diagram
Have students fill out a KWL chart in their journal about renewable and nonrenewable energy. Explain that renewable resources can be replaced and nonrenewable resources cannot. List examples of both (renewable: sunlight, wind, rain; nonrenewable: coal, oil, natural gas). Take students on a nature walk around the school. Have students collect data that reflects the amount of natural, renewable, and nonrenewable resources surrounding the school. Discuss what each student found upon returning to the classroom. Have students create a venn diagram foldable to compare and contrast renewable and nonrenewable energy (3 sections: renewable, nonrenewable, both).
Assessment: Have students take a 10 question test.
Resources: Directions for foldable, Venn Diagram
